Halloween time is finally here
A Brussels favorite time of year
For that is when they all meet
In costume to go “Beg for Treat!”

Vampires, devils, witches and more
Dressed up pint-sized Griffons galore
Chickens, cowboys, and ladybugs too
This is one hilarious crew!

October 24th, 6 o’clock
Bring your Griffon in a funny frock
We’ll have wine and cheese and treats to taunt
Muttropolis in Solana Beach will be our haunt!

Welcome to Ghouls, Ghosts, and Griffs! This is our annual Halloween pawty and it is always a huge hit. Once again Muttropolis in Solana Beach has offered to close it's doors to the general public and stay open for us so that our Brussels Griffons may frolic within it's walls. Costumes are optional, of course, but the winner of our Costume Contest has never been a Griff "dressed" as a dog.
While you sip your complimentary wine take a look around the store at all that Muttropolis has to offer! Their friendly staff has offered us a discount to use the night of the party.
We will be collecting $2.00 from each adult to cover the cost of this meetup site, unfortunately it's not free to run a meetup group on meetup.com, otherwise we would not ask. This will be an honor system with a jar at the cash register, we will not be shaking anyone down for cash (although that sounds like fun).

Donation: Since this is one of our biggest meetups of the year we will be collecting for the National Brussels Griffon Rescue http://www.brusselsgriffonrescue.org/ suggested donation is $5 (or more), last year we raised $70, here is a link to the letter thanking us for our donation http://griffon.meetup.com/20/photos/540931/#7305789 . Let's see if we can top that this year, it's unfortunate that any Brussels Griffon would need to go to a rescue but in our rough economic times this is becoming a bigger reality, and besides, it feels good to help out less fortunate Griffs than our own (spoiled little buggers!)

Pictures: Photographer Jennifer Petit will be taking professional pictures of our Griffs! She always does a great job capturing the expressions of our little monkeys. Here is a link to her Website http://fuzzle.exposuremanager.com/g/main

Afterwards: For those interested, we will reserve a table at the Pacific Coast Grill on nearby Highway 101 (they even have a dog menu!). It is a short walk from Muttropolis or you may park at the restaurant.

Directions: From Interstate 5 head west on Lomas Santa Fe to Cedros (you will see a large sign for the Cedros Design District) and turn left. Muttropolis is about a block south on the west side of the street. We will bring a cell phone 760-807-4510 if you get lost.

Moondoggy knew this was it. The perfect wave. It was cresting just behind him and with a push he stood on his board and as it skimmed downward he stood up. He raced down the wall of the wave, the wind rustling his fur, through the sparkling surf and right up to the shore. All of his furry friends rushed to meet Moondoggy for some fun frolicking on the beach....

Welcome to "Beach Bums and Brussels!" We'll be returning to one of our favorite spots to take advantage of the beach while the weather is still warm and sunny. Coronado Dog Beach is beautiful in early September and the crowds should be sparse the weekend after Labor Day. We will meet at 2pm on the north end of the beach and have fun watching our griffs play on the sand. It's been TOO long without getting all of our little "monkey faces" together and we have a whole bunch of new furry faces to see! We are going to bring a chaise lounge to the beach to take a group shot of all of Griffs with an ocean backdrop.

Bring your blankets, towels, and suntan lotion, and water for your BG's. If anybody is interested in getting together afterward for a light dinner and drinks at one of the dog friendly Coronado restaurants nearby let me know in your RSVP and I will reserve a spot. See you on the beach!

Coronado's Dog Beach is at the north end of Ocean Blvd. Just north of the famous Hotel del Coronado (unfortunately dogs are not allowed at the hotel)the area that is designated off leash is marked by signs. The off-leash beach is open 24 hours. Dogs must be supervised and cleaned up after. Dogs must be leashed outside of the off-leash area and fines are very steep for any violations. There are also fines for not cleaning up after your dog at the dog beach. Food and Pet Treats are not allowed at the beach.

A gloom had descended upon the city. Normally happy citizens trudged by each other, heads held low. It was as if a villain had somehow devised a way to keep people from enjoying life. The mayor of Muttropolis sent out an anxious plea for help.

Hopeless citizens sensed something was in the air. “Look….it’s a bird! No, it’s a plane. Wait. It’s…it’s the SuperGriffs!”

The furry heroes descended upon Muttropolis. Each person who gazed upon their happy monkey faces was forced to smile. The fun loving Brussels scurried about bringing laughs and smiles and love to everyone in Muttropolis and the griffs saved the day!

Welcome to “SuperGriffs at Muttropolis!” The wonderful people at Muttropolis are hosting our next meet-up. At 6pm on Saturday, June 6, Muttropolis Solana Beach will be closing it’s doors to the general public and welcoming Brussels Griffons to frolic freely in the pet boutique while their parents enjoy complimentary wine and cheese. As you sip your wine and enjoy watching all of the furry beasts romp, take a look around at all of the unique and wonderful items in the store since Muttropolis is generously offering a discount during the meet-up. Muttropolis meet-ups are always a blast (picture a chaotic room full of BG’s scampering about!).

Pictures, too! Photographer Jennifer Petit will be taking professional pictures of our griffs! Just “fur” fun we will even have a cape available. SuperGriffs to the rescue!

Before: Muttropolis Solana Beach is located in the heart of the Cedros Design Destrict. Come early for a fun walk and enjoy the great shops (most of which are dog friendly).

Afterwards: For those interested, we will reserve a table for after “SuperGriffs” at the Pacific Coast Grill on nearby Highway 101 (they even have a dog menu!).

One more bonus: “Hula,” the beautiful and now famous griff featured in the on-line Muttropolis Website, will be joining the festivities! See you at “SuperGriffs!” Here's a link to see Hula:

Bring your blankets, bring your babes, and bring your Brussels to the beach for "Beach Blanket Brussels!"

We are meeting at lovely Del Mar Dog beach for this retro-themed meet-up. Come as you are or wear funky old sunglasses and groovy sixties beach attire! For sixties style fun we will be serving "Beach Blanket Bingo" mocktails on the beach. This is an actual drink- look it up!.

Activities will include watching our BG's run on the beach, talking about our BG's, chasing our BG's, and just taking in the beach while enjoying a "Beach Blanket Bingo!" OK, we might just draw a big bingo pad on the sand and take a picture with our "little people."

After the beach, for those interested (and who wouldn't be?) we have a table reserved at the Pacific Coast Grill at 3:30. This restaurant is so dog friendly that they even have a doggy menu! There is a great outdoor patio and the restaurant is located just north at 437 S. Highway 101 in Solana Beach. People and dogs alike can enjoy early dinner or just the happy hour specials at this fun restaurant. Here's the link: http://www.pacificcoastgrill.com/

Directions: From Interstate 5 head west on Via de la Valle to Camino Del Mar (also known as the Coast Highway) where you will see a Brigantine Restaurant on the corner. Turn left (south) and park along the street. Make sure and bring at least $4 to pay for parking from the token machine because the meter maids are vicious here! Walk south across the bridge and then get on the beach just south of the river inlet. Look for all of the furry, big-eyed beauties! See you on the beach! We will bring a cell phone 760-807-4510 if you need help find us on the beach. Link to Del Mar Dog Beach:

Nearby fun things to do before or after the meet-up: A mile south Del Mar is a fun place to walk your dog. The Cedros Design District just a block or two north in Solana Beach and is loaded with cool dog friendly, artsy, and unique shops. The best of these is, of course, Muttropolis Solana Beach (which just happens to be our newest member)! Muttropolis Solana Beach has everything you need or want for your BG and then some and we strongly suggest you stop in for a visit. Here's the link:

Saturday is Valentine's Day and is reserved for sweethearts of the human kind. But Sunday, "Mes Amis," is reserved for the other little loves of our lives; our Brussels Griffons! We can shower our furry little beasts with love and affection as they romp and play together on the lush lawn at Mayflower Dog Park in Escondido.

This nice little dog park is at the base of the mountains surrounding Escondido and is a fun place to hold a casual meet-up so our Griffs can frolic. They have picnic tables inside so we will be having a small potluck of appetizer type treats (nothing too big, please!) for those who would like to bring something to eat or drink. The theme is Valentine's Day and red or pink attire or accessories is encouraged (for the dogs!). This is a great opportunity to bring in the New Year and meet some our new members and their owners.

Last time we met here we put all of our BG's on a table for a beautiful group shot consisting entirely of furry faces! "Nos chiens étaient magnifiques!" Apologies for the French- but that is how they speak in Brussels and it is one of the romance languages! Two o'clock is a beautiful time in Escondido this time of the year and even more beautiful when you are watching a bunch of little Griff's running around!

"Vous voir au parc de chien de Mayflower !" (See you at the Mayflower Dog Park!)

Directions from I-15 in Escondido. Go east on Valley Parkway all the way across town. Valley Parkway turns into Second Avenue. Bear left when the road splits at Palomar Hospital and you are back to being on Valley Parkway. As you are leaving Escondido look for a dinosaur wearing a Santa hat on your right (I'm serious about this!) and the dog park is across the street (Valley Parkway turns into Valley Center Road).

Bella strode happily though the courtyard with Mediterranean gardens, past the lush vineyards, the charming cafe, and all of the quaint village shops. She breathed in the clean, crisp air and enjoyed the pleasant Christmas music and the warm sunlight as she hurried to meet her friends for a holiday soirée in Uncle Vito's Park. Passing the last of the Sicilian style buildings she saw her dear friends by the gazebos across the lawn. Bella barked out a happy greeting and sprinted across the lawn toward all of her furry friends...

"Merry Griffmas" will transport Brussels Griffons and their owners 6000 miles and 100 years into the past to a place south of Sicily for a fun holiday wine and cheese party at the charming 119 year old Bernardo Winery. Hidden in the hills of Rancho Bernardo, this Sicily inspired winery is unique for it's character and the charming village shops, cafes, and wine tasting room. The winery will be uncorking and serving several wines of our choice served with assorted California cheeses, roasted garlic, olives, sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese in fine herbs, crackers and baguettes. We will also bring soda and sparkling water and cider to enjoy under the gazebos. You even get to keep the wine glass...

Most importantly, there is a secluded lawn area in Uncle Vito's Park for our griffs to romp with one another. We can also take our beautiful little beasts on a walk through the winery compound, which is truly beautiful. This will be a great holiday meet-up to enjoy our griffs, share photos from past meetups and have a holiday toast. Come early or stay later, the village shops are perfect for finding unique Christmas gifts. Bring your Santa hats! We're hoping to meet some of our new members before 2009!

If anybody want's to play Santa for our Griff's I'll be sure and bring a camera (for future blackmail opportunities).

Check out the link below for info and directions. Bernardo Winery is located about 25 miles north of downtown San Diego and it is tucked away so please use mapquest or a nav system on your first trip. Please RSVP yes, no, or maybe ASAP so we can reserve the the wine and cheese fest.

The princess and the pirate were not aware they were being stalked. As they rounded the corner they were stunned to see their path blocked by a sinister figure wearing a black cape. His exposed fangs were clearly visible and large eyes seemed to bore through their very beings. As the pair tried to retreat they found their path blocked by a devilish figure with red horn and pointed tail. Just when all seemed lost, a large hand reached down offering a doggy treat. All of the beautiful Griffons happily competed for the tasty treat...

Welcome to "Griff's N' Goblins!" Once more, the wonderful people of "Muttropolis" in La Jolla have offered to host our second annual "Halloween Costume Pawty." This meet-up will feature wine for the parents and hors d'oevres for people and dogs alike! This a costume themed party so members are encouraged (but not required) to dress their griffs up in costumes for this event. There will be prizes for best costumes and a photographer will be on hand to take pictures of our little monkey-faces. Muttropolis is generously providing all of the above free of charge so we have decided to ask for a $5 (or more) donation per dog for the National Brussel Griffon Rescue, Inc in lieu of a meet-up fee.

For those interested we have reserved an outdoor table a French restaurant next door which we have enjoyed on previous meet-ups at Muttropolis. "My Place Restaurant" is a great restaurant that doesn't mind our Brussels at the outdoor table. This is a great meet-up for our new and older members alike- so hope to see you all there (Just "fur" fun!). Check out all the links below to find out more info about this meet-up:

Sunlight sparkled on the waves as the stunning beauties strolled up from the waters edge. Onlookers gazed in awe at the scantily clad group as they cavorted on the beach, blissfully unaware of the envious stares of the onlooking crowd...

Welcome to "Brussels in Bikinis!" We'll be returning to one of our favorite spots to take advantage of the beach while the weather is warm and sunny. Coronado Dog Beach is beautiful in early September and the crowds should be sparse the weekend after Labor Day. We will meet at 2pm on the north end of the beach and have fun watching our griffs play on the sand. For the Brussels (not their owners), swimsuits are definitely optional! I'm personally rooting for at least one furry little beauty will be sporting a bikini or speedo (a vision that will be burned into your memory)!

Bring your blankets, towels, and suntan lotion. If anybody is interested in getting together afterwards for a light dinner and drinks at one of the dog friendly Coronado restaurants nearby let me know in your RSVP and I will reserve a spot. See you on the beach!

"Merlot & Mutts!"

Morning sun filters through the trees slowly drying the dew off the grapevines of the small vineyard overlooking the valley. Into this bucolic and Tuscan-like scene emerges the most beautiful little dogs in the world, happily sniffing and tugging their way through the grapes with their proud owners in tow....

"Merlot & Mutts" combines two of the great passions in our lives: griffon's and wine!
We will meet at Orfila Vineyards at 11am and will enjoy a guided tour through the vineyards with our Brussels in tow. After our griffs walk us through the vines we will return to the "Rose Garden" for our very own wine tasting. As we sip our wines and admire our furry beauties, we will enjoy gourmet cheeses, basil torte, fresh fruit, assorted crackers, breads & lavosh (I don't even know what lavosh is but it's probably very good). There is a large lawn area with dappled sunlight for our big eyed beauties to explore and cavort with each other and plenty of picture opportunities.

Proving that no sacrifice is too great for the sake of the meet-up, Susan and I have already consumed a bottle of Chardonnay from Orfila to make sure it was up to SDGM standards. It was. Then we tried the Merlot to be double sure- it was great! (We hope you all appreciate our hard work in testing these wines.)

There will be fee of $15 per human to cover the tour, wine tasting, and cheese and fruit feast and the fee includes a very lovely wine glass (worth at least $15) Lovingly gazing at our little beasts is free. Just bring the fee to the meetup.

Cheers!
Bryan, Susan, and "Bella"

P.S. Let me head off any comments about our BG's not being "mutts." The alternative title was "Griffons & Gewuerztraminer."

PPS To our new members: Most of our meetups are free- we're just trying something new!
